The Luso-American Education Foundation was organized by a group of citizens of Portuguese origin in 1963. The Foundation's goals are to foster, sponsor and perpetuate the Portuguese language and culture in the United States. The Foundation provides scholarships and educational grants in various categories and sponsors student exchange programs, annual education conferences, summer youth educational camps and Portuguese Day activities.
Headquartered in Dublin, California with a branch in Lexington, Massachusetts, Luso-American Education Foundation (LAEF) is a 501c3 non-profit organization. We are a branch of Luso-American Life Insurance Society (founded in 1868) and proudly serve the community at large.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT:
Scholarships/Grants - The Luso-American Education Foundation awards scholarships/grants to high school seniors and college students of Portuguese descent or those studying Portuguese and members of the Luso-American Fraternal Federation, Sociedade Portuguesa Rainha Santa Isabel and the Portuguese Continental Union.
Sponsor Students - Financial aid awarded to eligible students participating in Portuguese language and culture courses in the United States and in Portugal.
Culture and Education - Sponsor and hold an annual conference focusing on the Portuguese language, literature and culture.Provide support to other education and cultural programs that foster the teaching and promotion of the Portuguese Language or Culture. (i.e. Music,Folkloric Dance, History, Art, etc.)
Community Events and Projects - Support community events and projects aboutthe Portuguese and Portuguese-Americans
Accolades - Honor individuals for their continuous dedication to the Portuguese-American community.
Social Activities - Raising funds with a variety of activities and events to support our scholarships, educational and cultural programs we offer and sponsor.
Cultural Youth Summer Camp - Organize and sponsor an annual weeklong camp on a college campus for students to learn about college life and the Portuguese culture.
Dia de Portugal - Sponsor and celebrate "Dia de Portugal, deCamoes e das ComunidadesPortuguesas" inconjunction with the Foundation's Anniversary and honoring the scholarship recipients.
Membership allows voting rights at the Annual LAEF for every year the minimum installment is made or after the pledge is paid in full. Members receive invitations to events and the opportunity to run for the Board of Directors.
Sponsor: A pledge of $500 payable in a lump sum or yearly installments of $50 or more until paid in full.
Sustaining: A pledge of $600 payable in a lump sum or yearly installments of $25 or more until paid in full.
Benefactor: A one time contribution of $1000 or more.
Perpetual: A one time contribution of $2,500 will be accorded a perpetual membership and will be known as a "Patron". "Patron" may transfer the membership to a family member not to exceed 5 transfers.
LegalEntity: A contribution of $500 or more per year entitles an entity to membership. Each $500 contributed per year carries one vote for the year in which it is paid. No such entity shall have more than five votes.

The Luso-American Education Foundation has administered and awarded scholarships and grants to eligible students since its inception in 1963. LAEF has granted over $1,600,000 in scholarships and grants throughout the years, and continues to serve its community through its scholarship and grant program.
